Maison Close London Dress Code: Club Closed, Where to Go Instead

Maison Close has closed. The house music club at 9 Swallow Street, just off Regent Street, is no longer trading, so there is no Maison Close door to dress for and no Maison Close table or guestlist to book. If you searched for the Maison Close dress code because you were planning a night there, this page explains what the standard was and which open Mayfair clubs expect the same thing.

Be wary of anyone still offering Maison Close entry: there is no Maison Close night to book.

What the Maison Close dress code was (history)

While it was open, Maison Close ran a smart, sophisticated door, in line with the other premium rooms around Mayfair:

• Men: a collared shirt, tailored trousers and leather shoes or boots, with a blazer the safest choice on Fridays and Saturdays. Trainers, sportswear, shorts and caps were refused.
• Women: a fitted dress, a tailored co-ord or a dressy top with heels or smart flats. Dark, fitted jeans could work when the rest of the outfit was dressed up.
• Groups: the door judged the group as a whole, so one underdressed guest could hold everyone up.

That was its standard while it traded, kept here for anyone comparing clubs. It is not a current door policy.

Where to go instead, with the same dress code

The clubs below are open, we book them every week, and an outfit that would have passed at Maison Close passes at all of them. Every one of them asks for smart and elegant dress.

Dear Darling is the closest in feel: house music upstairs and a stylish crowd, a short walk from Swallow Street. Maddox suits a small, dark room and a well-dressed regular crowd, and its Green Room carries house music on until 6am. Scotch of St James is the most characterful of the three St James's and Mayfair rooms. What still applies across Mayfair

The Maison Close rules were not unusual, and they are a fair guide to any Mayfair door this year:

• Dress up rather than down. Tailoring and leather shoes for men, evening wear and heels or smart flats for women. Our London club dress code guide covers the detail.
• No sportswear. Trainers, tracksuits, caps and gym wear are the usual refusals for men at every club on the list above.
• Brief the whole group. Doors look at the group, not just the person at the front.

London has lost a lot of nightlife in recent years: the Night Time Industries Association counted 1,165 night-time businesses lost in London between March 2020 and December 2023, as BBC News reported. Those figures are city-wide and say nothing about why Maison Close shut. They are a reminder to check that a club is still trading before you plan a night around it, which we do with every booking.
